WHY PARENTS LOVE IT

Our programs sneak in learning without making it feel like school. While kids are having fun, they’re also building real-life skills like strategy, sportsmanship, planning, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.

Small group sizes mean lots of personal attention, and our cafe setting offers a safe, screen-free space where kids can unplug and interact face-to-face. We’re big on inclusivity, mutual respect, and making sure every kid feels like they belong at the table.

  • Rob has been running Dungeons & Dragons games for kids, teens, and adults at Main St. Board Game Cafe since 2020, both in-person and virtually.

He’s led dozens of groups through imaginative campaigns across weekly after-school clubs, school break camps, and private events like birthday parties and family games. Whether set in classic D&D settings like the Forgotten Realms and Planescape or in homebrew worlds of his own design, his games encourage collaboration and creative problem-solving while letting players’ decisions steer the story.

Some of his players’ favorite moments have included escaping from Carceri, saving the City of Brass from the archomental of Fire, and taming way too many dinosaurs. Rob is a graduate of Stony Brook University.

  • Lauren is a recent graduate of the University at Albany’s class of 2025 and is one of the event coordinators at our Huntington location.

She currently runs some of our TCG events including Magic the Gathering weekly drafts and pre-release events, and in addition runs our Board Game Club which started up this past April and plans to continue to run throughout the upcoming school year.

Lauren’s background in psychology and experience working with children has allowed her the tools to create and run programs such as the board game club. In the future, she plans to continue to work on expanding upon these programs focused around teaching kids various types of gaming models and expand our community at Main St. Board Game Cafe.

  • Sam has been running Dungeons and Dragons games for the past 14 years, two of which have been with Main St. Board Game Cafe. He enjoys exploring and teaching ideas through his campaigns, and has loved seeing how the students he works with contribute and evolve the stories beyond what he could've originally imagined.

He most enjoys adding new rules, puzzles, obstacles, and rewards to the game to further challenge his players and test their senses of problem solving and cooperation. The campaigns he runs now are set in a world that his players had a hand in creating!

Sam graduated from Long Island University, and has had a fascination with game design from a young age, leading him to create his own games and systems with his friends. He loves anything to do with puzzles and riddles and mysteries, often incorporating them into anything he can. His favorite board games are Cryptid and Clue.
